  2. Constantinople, the nephew of Constantine the
  3. Great, he was brought up as a Christian but
  4. early in life became a convert to paganism.
  5. Sent by Constantius to govern Gaul in 355, he
  6. was proclaimed emperor by his troops in 360,
  7. and in 361 was marching on Constantinople
  8. when Constantius' death allowed a peaceful
  9. succession. He revived pagan worship and
  10. refused to persecute heretics. He was killed
  11. in battle against the Persians.
